Open Farm Birding, Concert, Potluck & Program
Saturday, May 4
Birding All Day at Phil Specht’s farm
Concert 5pm, Program 7pm at the Wetlands Centre
Phil Specht is hosting a Birding Field Day on his farm, Pleasant Ridge Grassland Bird Sanctuary, followed by a potluck & concert at the Driftless Area Wetlands Centre in Marquette. The sanctuary is located 4 miles west of Marquette and 8 miles east of Monona on CCB-45. A Xerces sign will mark the driveway.
Specht’s farm will be open all day for birding. Participants are encouraged to record a bird species list and drop by the Wetlands Centre to share their findings. Participants are also asked to record any bumble bees they are able to identify. Rusty Patch bumblebees have been certified as present in the sanctuary.
A potluck gathering will be held at the Wetlands Centre from 5-8pm, with Sophia Landis providing music entertainment starting at 5pm, followed by music by the Delta Drifters. Chris Jones, author of "Swine Republic", will be the featured speaker at 7pm. This program is free to attend
Birders are encouraged to come and go from the gathering as they work on their bird species lists.
Directions to farm:
From Monona: Go east out of Monona on Pleasant Ridge Road (County Road B45) for 7.5 miles. Phil's farm is on the right.
From Marquette: Drive west on US Hwy 18 for approximately 0.5 miles. Turn right (north) on Pleasant Ridge Road (County Road B45) and drive 4 miles.
Driftless Area Wetlands Centre is located at 509 US 18, Marquette, Iowa

Wetlands Centre Summer Camps
We are excited to offer Wetlands Centre Summer Day Camps again this summer! Activities will include science & nature art activities along with unstructured outdoor play and exploration. Activities will be tailored to the interests age of students participating. Enrollment is limited to 20 kids (first-come).
Additional information can be found on the Summer Camp Registration Form. Summer Camp cost is $15/student. Registration is required. Students will go outside each day and should dress accordingly!
